Samos Cinema Festival

Konstantinos Fragoulis, director and screenwriter, and Maro Georgatou, organizer of artistic events in Samos, decided to create the association "Samotherios", inspired by a dream with the now extinct species and ancestor of the giraffe that actually lived in Samos returning to the island shouting through the sea. What did this dream mean?

Samos Cinema Festival 2025

The program of Samos Cinema Festival 2025 is ready! Friday 22 – Saturday 23 and Sunday 24th of August appointment at Platanaki loungers - we announce to you the starting film !

This year it begins and ends purely Greek.

DAY 1- 22.08
On Friday, August 22 – we start with a documentary about the most famous instrument, the heart of Rebetikos – Buzuki. From the illegality of the “underground” to the lounges of the folk song – bouzouki is worthy of its place in eternity.

The “Craped Sound” directed by Phoivos Kontogiannis and the idea, research and leadership of Anestis Barbatsis, lead us on a journey through the eyes of great personalities of the modern history of bouzouki, such as Manolis Pappos, Dimitris Vizas, George Dramalis, Manolis Karadinis, Vangelis Liolios, Giannis Moraitis, Christos Nikolopoulos, Giannis Papavassiliou, Kostas Papadopoulos, Thanasis Polykandriotis, Panagiotis Stergios, Thymios Stouraitis, Nikos Tatasopoulos, Vangelis Trigas and Diamantis Hitiotis, who, with their taxis and exciting narratives, will travel to us in the past, the present, but also the future of bouzoukis.

DAY 2- 23.08

Thirty-five (35) total short films of fiction and documentary arrived at the Samos Cinema Festival 2025, totaling nine (9) hours and four minutes!

Of all these with the help of the judges of Samothiri we ended up in the following eight (8) of which four (4) are documentary and the rest of the other are fiction films.

DAY 3 – 24.08
This year, as we told you, it begins and ends purely Greek..
On Sunday, August 24, Constantine Koutsiautis and Giannis Galanos show us why it is cool to play Karagiose today and what it means for them to liven up the figures from the Shadow Theatre, with the screening of a short documentary we created for them!
Then we'll be presented
